EXPOTUR 2009 , Costa Rica Travel Mart and Central America ’s prominent travel trade show, is going green. This year’s show will feature events promoting sustainable and carbon neutral initiatives locally and regionally.  EXPOTUR will take place at the Conference Center, Ramada Plaza Herradura Hotel, May 13-17/09 . Some 250+ representatives of the Costa Rican tourism industry will showcase their innovative products at the trade show. Educational seminars will be given by organizations including the Rainforest Alliance , National Geographic and the Organization for Tropical Studies . The Costa Rican Association of Professionals in Tourism (ACOPROT), in alliance with the National Fund of Forest Financing (FONAFIFO), will implement measures to

mitigate carbon emissions generated at Expotur.  They have pledged a series of tree-planting events to preserve the rainforest of the country. Says Carlos Ricardo Benavides, Minister of Tourism : “To have EXPOTUR this year be a carbon neutral event, is a way of showing wholesalers that our country has a strong commitment with sustainable tourism practices. In addition, our tourism sector is taking all the necessary steps towards mitigating the effects of climate change.” For more information, check out EXPOTUR 2009 online .
