Ever feel like you can't find a bike lane when you need one? Some innovators aren't waiting for cities to build bike infrastructure–they're helping cyclists mark their turf as they ride. We've already reported on the LightLane, a laser-lighted DIY bike lane  for night rides. But how about those morning commutes? The folks at Treehugger recently blogged about  Pepin Gelardi and Teresa Herrmann's Contrail (pictured), created for the Design21 Power to the Pedal competition . When a bike frame is fitted with

a Contrail device, its rear wheel leaves a colored chalk line on the road, marking the path of bike traffic. Contrail, still in prototype form, would be most effective on popular bike routes, where multiple chalk lines would remind motorists, other cyclists, and city officials of the two-wheeled community. –Della Watson Image courtesy of Studio Gelardi and Jessi Pervola Share your thoughts: Do you think the Contrail is a good idea?
