Eco-lodges are increasingly becoming accommodation options for eco-conscious travelers.  If you’re planning a western U.S. holiday, The Lodge at Sun Ranch in Cameron, Montana , is one of the newest ones in the country. The Lodge at Sun Ranch is an expansion, relocation and renaming of Sun Ranch Group’s original operation, Papoose Creek Lodge.  Relocated to the ranch’s main house, the new lodge is 10,000 square feet of space and accommodation in six guest rooms and suites in the main building and two freestanding cabins and common areas including a kitchen, dining room and wine cellar. Says Lara Morris, general manager: “It was a challenge to remodel the main house into an eco-lodge but our construction crew persevered to create an environmentally friendly and beautiful place…The lodge remodel used many reclaimed and green materials and new energy saving improvements.  In addition, we were able to recycle two cabins from Papoose Creek by moving them to the new location.” What are the lodge’s eco-friendly features ?  Among those features are low flow fixtures; reuse of gray water; reclaimed and non-toxic materials;

high efficiency appliances and utilities and alternative energy supply plan research.  Chef-prepared locally and organically-sourced gourmet meals are served.  Guided backcountry adventures involve environmental preservation practices and green education. Guests learn about eco-tourism and eco-ranching through a guest orientation to encourage participation in basic conservation practices like recycling. To help offset carbon emissions , The Lodge at Sun Ranch participates in the Trees for Travel program, which plants 10 trees per guest in the Amazon.
